"Vermonters know as well as anyone the rich metaphors inherent in farming and gardening." In the Reading & Discussion Series, Farms and Gardens, presented by the Grafton Public Library and the Vermont Humanities Council, "these authors dig deep to explore the philosophical roots, family dynamics and personal enrichment associated with tending and growing.".

These sentences quoted from the VT Humanities Council catalog describe a series focused on books by local award- winning author Jamaica Kincaid, L.L. Winship/PEN New England Award winning author Jane Brox, Sue Hubbell, author of several books selected by the New York Times Book Review's Notable Books of the Year and the well-known Michael Pollan, recognized by Newsweek as one of the “top ten new thought leaders of the decade”.

That's an impressive list of authors with much to say about the art and industry of farming and gardening.

Come dig deep with us at the library this spring, as our scholars and discussion moderators Rachael Cohen (April ) and Alan Berolzheimer (May) lead us through our popular annual reading and discussion series sponsored with the Vermont Humanities Council.    We are very fortunate to have two scholars who have garnered rave reviews from past reading and discussion series re-joining us for this session.

All books and materials for the series are provided free by the Grafton Public Library and VT Humanities Council. However, supplies are limited. Please contact the library to reserve your spot.
