The Grafton Public Library offers patrons downloadable audio books through a Vermont consortium of libraries that have contracted with the audio book vendor, Overdrive. Over 700 titles are available and are accessible on-line 24/7! All you need is a patron library card number. Please contact the library at 843-2404 if you do not know your patron number.

Don’t have a portable device such as an mp3 player? You can download and listen to audio books directly from your computer or you can borrow a device from the Grafton Public Library.

How to take advantage of Listen Up! Vermont:

Go to www.listenupvermont.org. The Quick Start Guide will answer most questions about the service.

You will need your library card number to download items:

1. Before downloading any titles, patrons will need to download and install a free program called Overdrive Media Console (Quick Start Guide). This program will allow you to download and play audio books on your computer. It also allows for transfer of audio books to a portable device such as an iPod or mp3player. You can also use the Media Console to burn to a CD. PC users will also need to have Windows Media Player installed. Read the Quick Start Guide for important information on these steps. There are versions of Overdrive Media Console for PC and Mac users. Pick the version appropriate for your computer.

2. Once Overdrive Media Console is installed on your computer, you may begin to search for titles or click on a category to browse. Any titles that say “add to basket” are immediately available for download. If a title is not immediately available, you may put yourself on the waiting list.

3. You may download two (2) items at a time on your card. They are available for seven (7) or (14) days—you set the preference yourself.

4. Overdrive is compatible with many portable devices. There are over 700 audio book titles available. Some titles are always available, but most are available only for one patron at a time and may be reserved, if they are checked out. Place a hold on the title you are interested in and you will be emailed when it is available.

5. Grafton Public Library has two mp3 players and one car kit available to be loaned out to patrons who do not have these devices and would like to take advantage of the downloadable audio. The players and car kit are available on a two week loan basis.
