December 15, 2016, 6:00 pm
Attending: Bob
Donald, Lucia Corwin, Andrea Dunmire, Deborah Toomey, David Whittall, and librarian
Michelle Dufort.
Bob Donald called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m.
Public Comment: No public in attendance
The minutes of October 20th were read and
approved.
Librarian’s Report
Michelle reported that a new member, Laurie Danforth, has
joined the Spanish language group. She is very fluent and the class is
delighted to have her participation.
The Experiencing Loss group remains active and will meet on
December 21st. A special program is planned to remember those that
have died.
All the end-of-year town reports have been completed and
sent to Kim Record.
The Vermont Country Store has donated $200 to the Library.
The Board was very pleased and appreciative of their support.
The Windham Foundation, courtesy of Suzanne Welch, donated
$1,000 to the Library as well. Her note was very warm and specifically mentions
the good work Michelle, Angel and the volunteers perform. Her kind words
regarding the Board were also appreciated. Deborah will write a personal note
on behalf of the board thanking her.
A newly formed investment group sponsored by Chappy Matt is
meeting in the Community Room at 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month.
Michelle attended the first meeting and may sit in on others as the Library
representative.
Treasurer’s Report
Library spending is trending below budget so far this
year. So far, the Library has spent 36%
of the annual budget, with 46 % of the fiscal year now passed. The entries for
Building Services were for the pumping of the septic system and repainting the
Library signs.
While costs for the Librarian’s health insurance are covered
by the Stevens Fund, Bob will verify the insurance premium cost increases budgeted
this year to make sure sufficient funds are available to cover expenses.
The Board unanimously approved a holiday bonus of $150 for
Angel Restino. She works hard, volunteers hours to the Library, and also keeps
the Library clean. Thank you, Angel for all your efforts on our behalf.
Building and Grounds
The storm door on the side of the Library facing the street
needs to be removed, as it is non-functioning.
Bob Donald has offered to remove it, as well as to winterize the outside
water spigot.
Other Business
Bob Donald submitted a draft Annual Appeal letter that was
approved by the Board. The only suggestion was to increase the font only if the
letter remained one page.
The next meeting will be Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 6
p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Deborah Toomey,
Secretary
